Continuum Level
This menu organizes opportunities by continuum levels.
- Awareness level activities that help students learn about the wide range of options available to them;
- Exploration level activities that strengthen student understanding of the connection between classroom learning and “real-world” applications;
- Preparation level activities that give students extended, supervised opportunities to develop readiness skills for work and live; and
- Training level activities that help students for entry into specific careers.
Time Commitment
This menu organizes opportunities by the general range of time each activity would ask of collaborators. Activities range in time commitment from hours to months.
Recommended Staffing
This menu organizes opportunities by the amount of people a collaborator may need to have available to help with an activity. Activities are arranged by none, few, some, and many.
Location
This menu organizes opportunities by recommended format(s). Opportunities can be sorted by school donation, on-campus, off-campus, and virtual formats.
INDUSTRY-RECOGNIZED CERTIFICATIONS 2-8 HR PREPARATION
Assist students in to prepare for industry recognized certification exams
SCHOOL-BASED ENTERPRISE
Help prepare students to transition from high school to work or post-secondary education by providing work experience, typically run by students on the school’s campus with industry mentors
INTERNSHIP
Provide professional work experience aligned with a career pathway that applies classroom learn- ing and builds skills. Internships can be paid or unpaid and follow an approved structure.
EMPLOYABILITY / FOCUSED INTERNSHIP
Provide on-the-job paid work experience along with career exploration & planning. May not be aligned directly with a student’s career pathway. Internship information can be used for planning.
PERFORMANCE-BASED ASSESSMENT
Work with teachers to develop a scenario or industry-based problem for students to apply pathway content knowlege, skills, and strategies to design and present possible responses, solutions, and/or products.
SCC / ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER
Participate in a school- or city-level workforce development and education advisory group (1 person typically at management level or above)
EXTENDED SERVICE LEARNING PROJECTS
Support students in designing and implementing projects at local businesses; government agencies, and non-profit organizations. Includes but not limited to project-based lessons, mālama ʻaina projects, community service projects, etc.
SCHOOL-INDUSTRY PROJECT
Assist teachers in designing a multidisciplinary learning activity. Potentially coach student teams and/or provide feedback on student work.
INDUSTRY RESOURCE RICH CLASSROOM
Provide industry-recognized technical resources to schools to help students prepare for work-based learning experiences and/or industry-recognized certification exams
